چکیده
We report the symmetrized density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) study of neutral and doped oligomers of PPP system within an extended Hubbard model. Model parameters are determined by comparing the existing results for interacting small system. We compute a number of properties in the ground state as well as in the one-photon, two-photon and triplet states to completely characterize these states. Based on the relative positions of the one-photon and two-photon states in long oligomers, we suggest that invoking interchain interactions is essential for explaining strong fluorescence in this system. Bond-order studies show that the lowest two-photon state corresponds to a localized excitation while one-photon and triplet excitations are extended in nature. The bipolaronic state shows clear evidence for charge separation and disproportionation into two polarons. We find that the extended nature of one-photon and triplet states of neutral system are very similar to those of the bipolaronic ground states. DMRG Calculations of the Low-lying Excitations and Nonlinear Optical Properties of poly(para-phenylene)
A phenomenological two molecular orbital (2-MO) model of poly(para-phenylene) (PPP) is introduced. Its parameters are determined by fitting its predictions to exact Pariser-ParrPople model calculations of benzene and biphenyl, and it is solved using the density matrix renormalisation group method. It is shown that there exists a band of B u excitons below the band states. In the long chain limi...

This paper reports the synthesis and characterizations of a new water-soluble pol &JrB phenylene) (PPP) and its applications in preparing self-assembled multi-layer films. This new water-soluble conducting polymer was prepared through the sulfonation reaction of poly(pquarterphenylene-2,2’-dicarboxylic acid). The incorporation of sulfonate groups has dramatically improved PPP’s solubility in wa...
متن کاملTheoretical studies of poly(para-phenylene vinylene) (PPV) and poly(para-phenylene) (PPP)
The electroluminescence from PPV and the blue light emission from PPP constitute exciting subjects of study. The band gap of these semiconducting polymers can be engineered in a wide range from red to ultraviolet by structural changes made on them. In the present work, we present a theoretical approach based on semiempirical and ab initio total energy and force calculations of PPV and PPP. We p...
متن کاملA Theoretical Investigation of the Low Lying Electronic Structure of Poly(p-phenylene Vinylene)
The two-state molecular orbital model of the one-dimensional phenyl-based semiconductors is applied to poly(para-phenylene vinylene). The energies of the low-lying excited states are calculated using the density matrix renormalization group method. Calculations of both the exciton size and the charge gap show that there are both 1B− u and 1 A + g excitonic levels below the band threshold. The e...
متن کاملLong-range excitons in conjugated polymers with ring torsions: poly(para-phenylene) and polyaniline
Ring torsion effects on optical excitation properties in poly(para-phenylene) (PPP) and polyaniline (PAN) are investigated by extending Shimoi-Abe’s model [Synth. Met. 78, 219 (1996)]. The model is solved by the intermediate exciton formalism. Long-range excitons are characterized, and the long-range component of the oscillator strengths is calculated. We find that ring torsions affect the long...
